Holiday Recycling Guide

Christmas morning wrapping paper all over the floor

With all those Black Friday finds, Cyber Monday scores, holiday deals, gift boxes, shopping bags and spools of ribbons, it can be hard to know what is recyclable, what is garbage, and what should have been avoided in the first place. Follow the tips below and use www.GarlandWasteWizard.com for all your disposal questions.

Remember:

  1. Cardboard is recyclable in your blue recycle cart but Styrofoam, packing peanuts, plastic bags, air pillows and bubble wrap are NOT recyclable in your blue cart.
  2. Holiday lights are NOT recyclable in your blue recycle cart. Donate, repair or throw them in the trash.
  3. Shiny wrapping paper, glittery holiday cards, ribbons, and bows are NOT recyclable. Consider wrapping your gifts in tea towels, reusable shopping bags, old newspaper pages, or craft paper instead.
  4. Christmas trees, real or fake, are NOT recyclable in your blue recycle cart.

By throwing non-recyclable items in the blue recycle cart you risk making all recycling trash. Thank you for recycling right and keeping the City of Garland's recycling services safe and efficient.
