Recycling Center & Transfer Station Tours

Come learn about where your trash and recycling materials go after they leave your curb at 1426 Commerce Street, Garland, TX 75040. The recycling center includes:

  • automobile oil and filters
  • clothing
  • containers for citizens to drop-off metals
  • cooking oil/grease
  • shoes
  • single-stream items

Storytime on litter prevention and recycling is available. 

Tours are held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours may be held outside these hours based on staff availability.

C. M. Hinton, Jr. Regional Landfill Tours

The Hinton Landfill accepts municipal solid waste, construction, and demolition waste from residents, private waste haulers, and commercial businesses, taking in approximately 1,100 tons of garbage every day. Located at 3175 Elm Grove Road, Rowlett, TX 75089, the landfill’s hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the general public.

  • Keep Garland Beautiful regularly sponsors neighborhood clean-ups and beautification projects. Come make a difference in your community, learn the effects of trash on our environment, the importance of recycling, and how to use our resources wisely. 
  • Composting Classes - offered throughout the year: Learn how to keep your yard trimmings and other organic materials from ending up in the landfill, while producing a beneficial soil amendment for all your gardening needs.
